Susquehanna Chapter ADK

The ADK Hike for Tuesday, May 20th will be led by us directly from our driveway. We will hike WINNEY HILL RIDGE. Starting from our house at 10:00AM, we will walk up to the top of the hill behind our house, walk on some of the Ridge hiking trails, go down the Gas Line to Upper West Street to Herrick Hill Road, then back through the woods going south coming down behind our house. This hike rates a B-.

Please bring a lunch. We will supply drinks and dessert, and weather permitting, we can eat on our deck. Otherwise we can eat inside.

The club will have its monthly meeting at the Elm Park United Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. in Oneonta. The meeting will begin with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a program by Nina and Joe Hart at 7 p.m. The harts will show still pictures, slides and a DVD of Denali National Park.

The Susquehanna Chapter of ADK has a team paddling in the Sunday, May 25th Grand Prix Relay Race. We hope that those of you who are in town on that day will come out to support the team and perhaps help a bit at the exchange points. Our team consists of:

The Race begins at 12:15PM behind The Super Eight Motel.

Linda Pearce will lead a hike on May 27 at Goodyear Lake from her house to the State Fishing Access site along the south end of the lake to the Colliers dam. Meet at her house* at 10:00 or carpool from the Price Chopper at 9:30. Bring lunch. Drinks and ice cream provided. For more information, call Linda at 432-8969.

On Tuesday, June 3 the ADK hike will be to the Van Hornesville gorge. We will plan to meet at the Glimmerglass Opera parking lot on the west side of the road at 9:30 a.m. We plan to eat lunch at the Tunnicliff Creamery on Route 20 (they serve fantastic homemade ice cream). Tuesday, June 10, will be a canoe/kayak paddle on the Susquehanna River from the bridge in Milford to the take out at Crumhorn Boat Launch. Leave your canoe/kayak at the bridge with an observer, drive your car to Crumhorn, car pool back to Milford then paddle to the take-out where your car will be waiting for you. Lunch can be a picnic at Crumhorn. Let's start all this ferrying about at 9:30 at the bridge. If there are thunderstorms, the trip will be cancelled.

Doug and Scott Fielder will lead a hike on Hooker Mountain in the Town of Maryland on Tuesday, June 17. Meet at Price Chopper at 9:20 to car pool to Fielders’ home in Maryland, or meet at Fielders’ home at 9:45. Waterproof shoes are recommended and there is one short, moderate hill. Bring your lunch to Fielders’ home after the hike and we will provide ice cream. For more information call 638-5436. -- Doug and Scott
