Susquehanna Chapter ADK

The outing Tuesday, July 22, is a Clip-Clop, Waggle Walk in Bear Swamp State Forest in the Towns of Roseboom and Decatur in Otsego Co. This ski trail, newly opened after a period of harvest, requires marking, clearing and a short stretch of new trail. The area can be accessed from the north on the Buttermilk Hill road which departs from County Rt. 165 a mile or so east of the hamlet of South Valley; or from the south on the Formen Road via County Rt. 38. ( A county map is probably essential here).

Leaders: Ernie & Heide Mahlke. 432-2583. Hike the Finger Lakes Trail and side trail to Oquaga State Park (.6 mile round trip) for a picnic lunch and swim in the lake. Suitable for age 10 and older. Rated B.

We'll meet on Tuesday, July 29, at 9:30 a.m. at Gilbert Lake State Park, first parking lot, on the left as you enter park. Entrance should be free for "oldsters" with driver's license. We'll investigate the old fire tower site, some climbing from the road, and then walk over the top back to the Briggs Pavillion for lunch. BLUE RIDGE WEEKEND - August 1-4, 2008: Attention, Blue Ridge campers!

Bev Hensle will lead a hike to Mo Pond near Cooperstown. We will meet at the upper parking lot of the Great American In Cooperstown at 9:30 am. Oneonta people can meet at Price Chopper, car pool, and leave the parking lot for Cooperstown by 9:00 am. It will be about a 2 hr. hike with some bushwacking and wet spots. Wear water proof footwear, and a walking stick would be helpful. Bring lunch and we will eat by the pond. Call Bev at 286-9126.

Tuesday’s ADK hike will be along the scenic roads of Decatur, NY -- a comfortable, easy walk. We will consolidate rides at Price Chopper and leave there by 9:00 am for the Gyori’s house. If you drive directly to the Gyori’s, you should be there by 9:30 am. Bring your lunch and enjoy it on the deck. The Gyori's will provide ice cream. On August 19 Doug & Scott Fielder will lead a hike on private land, off Taite Road, Schenevus South Hill. Wear waterproof footwear -- parts of some trails may be wet. The hike will be pretty level. We will see ponds, fields, woods and a great view from an overlook. Pack a lunch to eat at the Fielders and we’ll supply ice cream. Meet at Price Chopper at 9:20 or at Fielders at 9:45.
