We will ski, snowshoe or hike, approx. 3 mi., on the RR tracks from our house on the east side of Goodyear Lake. I'll provide soup and/or chile for lunch when we return. Leave from Price Chopper @ 9:45 or meet at our house @ 10:00. Please carpool as much as possible. UPDATE: As of Saturday afternoon, snow conditions on the RR tracks are good for skiing, snowshoeing or walking. Snowmobiles have packed down the surface, but the snow is still loose, not icy. SKIERS - BE ADVISED that there are 3 road crossings. The length of the outing can be individually determined.
The outing formerly scheduled for Whaupaunaucau State Forest has been changed. Meet at Lower Riddell State Park at 10 am on Tuesday. The parking lot is not plowed but the wide curb allows roadside parking. Park trails are very uneven almost necessitating snowshoeing. Leaders: Barb & Jack Meeks, 783-2924.
Leader: Lucille Wiggin, 432-1022. Meet at Price Chopper in time to leave at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at the Boy Scout Camp main parking lot by 10:00. We will then walk the mile down Boy Scout and Shutter Roads to the well gate where we will be met, at 10:30, by Richard Nayhe, geologist for the gas co. Upon returning to the cars, we can walk in the Boy Scout Camp for more exercise, if you wish. It looks like it will be a nice day, so bring a lunch and drink for a picnic. Or we can eat at Jackie's in Milford. Since rain is forecast for the weekend it may be muddy, so dress accordingly.
Wednesday, March 17, monthly meeting at Elm Park United Methodist Church. Celebrate St. Partick's Day at our March 17th ADK Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. You do not have to be Irish to enjoy corned beef, carrots, potaotes, onions, and cabbage instead of our usual potluck. We will provide all the food and desserts. (Unless you have been specifically asked to bring something.) Wear something green, if you like. We will start serving promptly at 6:00.
Hike participants should meet at 10 a.m. at Joe Cornell parking lot. From there hikers will proceed to Arnold Lake and park. Ernest has decided to circumnavigate the lake on the dirt road. The distance is a scant 3 miles and there are a few ups and downs, but nothing strenuous. It could be damp under foot and of course it will be colder by then. We tried out the Milford State Forest today, but the footing was bad with lots of snow still on the ground. Heide Mahlke 432-2583
Maureen Willis will lead a hike at Wilbur and Betty Davis State Park. Meet at Price Chopper at 9:20 a.m. and carpool to Park or meet at park at 10:00 a.m. We will walk the roads from the parking lot; trails are muddy. Easy walking, little up hill, about 2 1/2 to 3 miles. Bring lunch and binoculars. Nice views and birds. Call Maureen 286-9821 or Linda Pearce 432-8969.
