Directions: Hike leaves from the Upper Riddell State Park entrance at 9:30. If you are coming from Oneonta, traveling east on I-88, take exit 17. The park entrance is at the terminus of exit 17 on Hwy 28. If you are coming from Cooperstown, traveling south on Hwy 28, go under I-88 to the Upper Park entrance. Because there are long and short trip options, car pooling at Price Chopper is not encouraged.
Short Hike: Upper Riddell Entrance to Creek. This hike is up hill for 1.44 miles, along a shaded path, until the creek is reached. People opting for this shorter hike could eat lunch and then return down hill to their cars. The round trip would take about 2 to 2 ½ hrs and is 2.93 miles long.
Long Hike: Upper Riddell Entrance to Mud Lake. This is a rewarding extension to the previous hike that adds an additional 1.87 miles to the length. The longer hike version is 4.8 miles and takes from 3 ½ to 4 hrs to complete. Bring lunch to eat on the trail. Water proof footwear and bug spray are recommended.
