Milford Seasonal Road Walk - Tuesday, June 15, 2010

There were 21 hikers who walked a seasonal road in Milford on June 15th. It was a beautiful sunny morning and by starting at 9:00 am we were done at 11:00 am and avoided the mid-day heat. There were a lot of hills so there was a car at the bottom for those who didn`t want to walk back up. Every seemed to have a good time as usual. Co-leaders were Dran Darrah, Bev Hensle and Maureen Willis

Todd-Stevens Road Hike - Tuesday, April 6, 2010

On Tuesday, April 6th, eight hearty hikers met to walk Todd-Stevens Road. In spite of on-and-off showers we had a nice 4 mile walk on a seasonal road. We stopped briefly at Lippett Cemetery to check out the very old gravestones dating back to the 1800`s. We were joined about halfway by a very friendly Golden Retriever named Comet. He stayed with us to the end of the hike and looked puzzled when we all got in our cars to leave. We were reluctant to leave him so far from home and tried to get him to follow our cars back. He soon lost interest and disappeared into the woods.

Crumhorn Mountain Hike - Tuesday, September 1, 2009

There were 19 hikers who gathered at Crumhorn Mountain on Tuesday, September 1. It was a beautiful cool clear day and you could definitely feel Fall in the air. We had a nice easy hike around the Boy Scout camp and through the woods making a loop back to the road where there was a choice of returning to the cars or continuing around the lake. After returning to the parking lot several people stayed and ate lunch at the picnic table. We were sorry that Lucille decided not to join us as it was a little to cool for swimming as we had planned.

Todd Road Hike – April 14, 2009

It was a nice warm spring day as 20 hikers walked a 4 mile loop on Todd Road in the town of Hartwick. We passed a large pond with several geese and a few ducks lazily swimming around. We also found the old Lippett Cemetery quite interesting and several tried to decipher the engravings on the very old weathered headstones. Afterwards, several tired and hungry hikers went to Jackie`s for lunch. Photographs 1-5, 10 and 12 were taken by Scott Fielder and photos 6-9 & 11 were taken by Carol Saggese. The yellow flower is Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara).

Hawk Circle Hike - Tuesday, March 10, 2009

On Tuesday March 10th, 16 hikers traveled to Hawk Circle near Cherry Valley. We were led on a tour through the grounds by Rick Sierra who founded Hawk Circle about 12 years ago. This is a nature center that teaches wilderness skills and living close to nature. He pointed out various kinds of trees and a shelter that the students had built from leaves and branches. After our walk we were treated to a delicious lunch of hot soup and homemade bread hot from the oven. All of this while sitting around a nice cozy wood fire where we all enjoyed more interesting conversation.
