I recently received the glorious news that The Nature Conservancy had closed a deal to purchase the magnificent 15,000 acre Follensby Pond Tract. This property will be purchased in the next few years by the State of New York. For three decades the Follensby Pond Tract has been one of the top five land acquisition priorities of the Adirondack Mountain Club.
Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) Executive Director Neil Woodworth issued the following statement concerning today's announcement that The Nature Conservancy has purchased Follensby Pond in the Adirondacks:
LYON MOUNTAIN, N.Y. -- The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) Professional Trail Crew has completed work on a new hiking trail to the 3,830-foot summit of Lyon Mountain, one of the most popular hiking destinations in the northern Adirondacks.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has completed its revision of the Catskill Park State Land Master Plan, which balances new outdoor recreation opportunities with better protections for one of New York's greatest natural resources.
The formation of a Quiet Waters Working Group offers an excellent opportunity to expand one of the Adirondack Park's greatest attractions, the St. Regis Canoe Area.
